purple flower

Purple Flower“ combines colors of Cambodian ikats with patterns of old oriental carpets. Shortly before their extinction, the Japanese Kikuo Morimoto revived the art of Cambodian ikat weaving starting in 1995 and founded the Institute of Khmer Traditional Textiles, now located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The moving story behind this project and the beautiful handwoven ikats inspired me to create the design „Purple Flower“. For this beautiful triangle shawl, I chose 10 colors that harmonize with each other in a graceful way.

„Purple Flower“ is almost symmetrical and is knitted flat from the bottom up (not in the round). You start at the right scarf tip and knit steadily increasing stitches until you reach a diagonal bias.

The shawl is included with 8 other inspiring models in my E-Book „Zauberland“.
